Begin your building project by reflecting on what you bring
to it: knowledge, experience, needs, wishes and personal
opinions. Each owner has a varying degree of experience
with design and construction. By assessing what you already
know about your project, you will establish what you need
from your architect, builder and designers.
A home is much more than lumber, windows and flooring. It
is also site preparation, installation of utilities, well
and septic, as well as decorating and furnishing. How can
you get what you want and still stay within your budget?
When establishing a budget, consider the home and everything
associated with it, from property taxes, the lot, building
trends and systems and other factors that determine
what you can afford.
Does your floor plan fit your lot? Consider the contour and
lay of the land, orientation to the street, trees and other
fixtures.
Be informed of county or township zoning laws, building
regulations, permit requirements and inspections.
When developing a floor plan, make a list of the rooms you
want in your home and how they will be used. Visualize how
your family will move within this space. Share your ideas
with our “Building Coordinators” and take advantage of their
experience and expertise.
